“I love you too, Lucas,” I whispered. And I did. God, did I ever love him.
“I’ve never had a woman say those words to me before.” His hands roamed down my back. “Like you, I’ve never experienced this. There was someone I cared about but that was it. It was never love. But you have your grandma.” He released me and sat on the edge of my bed. “I have no family.”
“You have us. We’re your family now, Lucas. That’s all that matters.”
