A friend of my husband's, who is now my friend too, just turned 50. He runs marathons, half-marathons, triathlons and more. I think he's even started venturing into ultra-marathons. He does Iron Mans and all that insane stuff. I want to do the same. I have a 5k and 3 half-marathons under my belt but those half-marathons about killed me. I did not train or eat properly.
I'm 38 and by the time I turn 40, I want to run a marathon. I even put it in my calendar to run a marathon on my 40th birthday. But I've had a hard time trying to train for it. I figured giving myself just a little under 2 years, should be enough time. Right? I'm thinking so but it's getting outside that's been a problem. It doesn't help that my schedule was screwed up last week and I didn't run at all. With it now being fall and with winter coming, who wants to run in this weather? I need a treadmill. I also need to just go out and run first thing. No matter how little sleep I've had the night before.
So today is October 31st, 2021, and I'm going to start training. I'm going to create my own schedule and just run. I'll share my progress, thoughts and feelings and eventually share my schedule too. Not sure how it's going to go but I already know that I'll struggle. Because honestly, running is hard. But what's harder, is getting out the door.
Here's to day 1 of training.
